Storer
Sara Storer is one of Australia’s most-loved singer-songwriters, a multiple Golden Guitar winner whose crisp observations of the Australian landscape and its people provide the foundation stone for her music. She has seen all the beauty, joy and heartbreak this land can bring, living for a time in western Queensland, where she wrote her first song, and working as a schoolteacher in Katherine in the Northern Territory.
Sara’s brother Greg Storer is a working farmer based near Warren in Western NSW whose talent was unleashed in 2001 as co-writer and duet partner with Sara on her second album Beautiful Circle. The collaborations have continued and have resulted in many Golden Guitars and an ARIA award.
Greg released a solo album, Backwater, on Compass Bros Records in 2010 which earned high praise from critics and fans alike. In a review of the recording Kim Cheshire opined: “Storer has a rich, soulful voice sitting somewhere between Chris Rea and Guy Clark and is obviously no novice when it comes to expressing himself musically and lyrically”.
Through the years Greg has become a fixture on Sara’s shows contributing vocals, guitar, banjo and stomp box while maintaining a strong songwriting presence so when talk turned to Sara’s next album the decision was easy: it should be a family affair under the name of ‘Storer’.
Storer’s debut album, which also features Greg’s daughter’s Bonnie and Pip, will be released on Compass Bros Records on January 13 at the Tamworth Country Music Festival. Show Me, the first single from album is out now.
